Do you have experience working with or towards the various institutions of the EU and a good understanding of how the political decision-making processes work in Sweden and within the EU? Do you want to translate deep labor law expertise into concrete influence on the Swedish labor market? As a researcher with an EU focus at Saco, you will be a key person in monitoring, assessing, and influencing EU initiatives that shape the conditions for Sweden's academics.
About Saco
Saco, the central organization for Sweden's academics, gathers 21 member unions with nearly a million university and college-educated members. Saco advocates for the interests of academics through opinion formation, investigations, and active participation in the Swedish and European dialogue on labor market, education, and research. The organization is politically independent and upholds the Swedish collective bargaining model, where the parties play a central role in regulating working life. Saco does not consider age, gender, or ethnic background but values curiosity, humility, drive, and judgment.
Saco's office is located in Gamla stan in Stockholm, close to the government, parliament, and other central actors.
Job Responsibilities
You will be part of Saco's social policy department and will specifically be responsible for EU-related issues in the fields of labor law and the labor market. An important part of the work is to influence legal developments, and you will work in relation to, among others, the government, parliament, and EU institutions. Together with other lawyers and researchers, you will monitor relevant issues at the EU level, develop proposals for positions for Saco, and ensure that the effects on the Swedish collective bargaining model are clearly highlighted.
Specific job tasks:
Monitor and analyze EU initiatives that affect the Swedish labor market.
Take a comprehensive and overarching responsibility for issues related to AI, nationally and internationally.
Conduct legal and labor market policy impact assessments and propose positions for Saco based on the perspectives of member unions.
Write memos, consultation responses, replies to inquiries, and other materials for Saco's management, member unions, and external actors.
Represent Saco as an expert in reference groups, public investigations, and consultations with the Government Offices, as well as in contacts with LO, TCO, and European partners.
Coordinate and contribute to networks and meetings with the lawyers and negotiation leaders of member unions on issues related to EU law, labor law, and the collective bargaining model.
Education, Experience & Personal Qualities
Law degree.
Several years of experience in qualified work where you have combined labor law and EU law.
Well-developed knowledge of labor law and EU law, with a good understanding of the relationship between EU law, national law, and collective agreement regulation.
Documented experience in producing legal analyses, materials, and consultation responses, preferably in a politically driven or party-based environment.
Very good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English.
Meritorious
Experience from trade union organizations, the Government Offices, employer organizations, or other actors closely linked to the Swedish collective bargaining model.
Experience in EU-related labor law issues.
In this role, you need to combine deep legal expertise with a clear ability to place the law in a labor market policy context from a trade union worker perspective, especially for academics. You work in a structured manner and can quickly navigate extensive material to identify what is most significant. You are confident in presenting conclusions, both orally and in writing, even when time frames are tight and all details are not clarified.
You are attentive and used to handling situations where different actors may have different starting points, and you contribute to shaping common positions. At the same time, you take initiative, drive processes forward, and take responsibility for completing tasks on time. Your communicative and pedagogical skills ensure that all target groups understand what is at the core of the issue and what consequences it may have.
About the Position
This position is a direct recruitment, which means that the recruitment process is conducted through Bravura and you will be employed directly by Saco.

Start: By agreement.
Location: Saco's office at Lilla Nygatan 14 in Gamla stan, Stockholm. Some travel may occur in the position.
